Low Stock Alert Widget
Overview
The Low Stock Alert Widget displays real-time inventory scarcity messages on your product pages, such as "Only 3 units of Blue Widget left in stock!" This creates urgency and encourages customers to complete their purchase before the item sells out.
What It Shows
The widget displays a compact, inline message that includes:
- A colored icon with an hourglass/filter symbol indicating urgency
- The remaining stock count (e.g., "Only 3")
- A customizable unit noun (e.g., "units", "items", "pairs")
- The product name
- The phrase "left in stock"
Example message: "Only 5 units of Premium Headphones left in stock"
Data Source Options
You can choose how the widget gets its stock data:
Shopify Inventory (Recommended)
When set to "Shopify Inventory," the widget automatically pulls the real inventory quantity from your Shopify product data. This ensures customers always see accurate, up-to-date stock levels. The widget reads inventory from the currently selected variant, or the first available variant if none is selected.
Note: For live inventory to work, your product must have inventory tracking enabled in Shopify and the inventory policy must not be set to "continue selling when out of stock."
Manual Mode
If you prefer to display a fixed number regardless of actual inventory, switch to "Manual" mode. This allows you to set a specific number between 1 and 50 using the "Units remaining" slider. Manual mode is useful for:
- Products without inventory tracking enabled
- Testing the widget appearance
- Creating consistent urgency messaging
Automatic Visibility
The widget intelligently shows and hides itself based on stock levels:
- Visible: When stock is greater than zero
- Hidden: When stock reaches zero (out of stock)
This means the widget only appears when there is actual scarcity to communicate, keeping your product pages clean and messaging relevant.
Customization Options
Unit Nouns
Customize the terminology to match your products:
- Singular noun: Used when exactly 1 unit remains (e.g., "unit", "item", "pair", "bottle")
- Plural noun: Used when more than 1 unit remains (e.g., "units", "items", "pairs", "bottles")
Fallback Product Label
If the product title is unavailable for any reason, the widget displays your fallback label instead. The default is "this item."
Icon Appearance
- Icon color: Choose any color for the urgency icon. The default is orange (#f97316), which conveys urgency effectively.
- Icon corner radius: Adjust how rounded the icon background appears, from square (0px) to fully circular (40px). The default is 20px for a rounded look.
Adding to Your Product Pages
- Go to Online Store > Themes in your Shopify admin
- Click Customize on your active theme
- Navigate to a Product page template
- Click Add block in the section where you want the alert to appear (typically near the Add to Cart button)
- Select USP Inline Low Stock from the app blocks
- Configure your preferred settings in the block options panel
- Click Save
Best Practices
- Position strategically: Place the widget near your Add to Cart button where it reinforces the purchase decision
- Use live data: Whenever possible, use the Shopify Inventory data source for authentic, trust-building messaging
- Match your brand: Adjust the icon color to complement your store's color scheme while maintaining visibility
- Choose appropriate nouns: Use product-specific terms (e.g., "bottles" for beverages, "pairs" for shoes) for a more professional appearance
